strives to create architecture that meets the functional needs of the user at the highest level possible while creating a "sense of place" to act as an appropriate backdrop for the activities and events which will occur within the project.

We feel the character and formal architectural expression of the building should relate to and enhance not only the activities of the purpose for which it was created, but also the fabric of the community in which it will exist, both that of the immediate users and that of the larger context of the surrounding area.

This idea requires an understanding of the physical fabric of the relevant historical built environment, the character of the local or regional context in question, and the contemporary daily activities of the inhabitants of the area for livelihood and social interaction.

Our philosophy is one of coherent design that looks for patterns and overall organizations in systems, details, and expressions of architectural features. Ideally, any single aspect or detail of the project should make sense in terms of the organizations that define the whole. This thinking lends itself to the creation of dimensional modules and proportional relationships consistent throughout the building. These concepts inherently make the project come together in a logical way and simplify construction and basic issues like furniture layout, circulation diagrams, standard structural spans and efficient use of dimensions of standard building materials.

The nature of our approach is one that promotes a connection between the architectural experience of the building and the activities which will occur there, each developing, defining, and enhancing the character of the other.
